UltraPulse Fractional Ablative Laser Resurfacing
If you’re thinking about laser skin resurfacing to treat your brown spots, sun damage, wrinkles, acne scarring and more, with minimal downtime, our new laser, the UltraPulse Fractional Ablative Laser, may be the right choice for you. Read on to find out if this newest technology might be right with you.
What is Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing?
Fractional CO2 ablative laser resurfacing is a revolutionary laser technology for aged, sun-damaged, pigmented or scarred skin. It is a precise, effective, and long-lasting method to regenerate new, healthy skin. The minimal downtime procedure uses Fractional CO2 Laser microbeams to precisely target the deep dermal layers of the skin. This stimulates a cascade of healing responses that leads to tissue regeneration and new collagen formation throughout the entire treatment area. As a result, the skin is restored to a healthier, more youthful state. The face, neck, chest and hands can all be treated with UltraPulse technology. Because only a fraction of the skin is actually touched by the laser, healing time can be limited to just a few days.
How Does Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing Work?
UltraPulse fractional laser resurfacing technology provides a level of control that is hard to achieve with other aesthetic resurfacing treatments such as chemical peels and dermabrasion. Only a fraction of the skin’s surface is treated, leaving bridges of untouched skin to aid in the regeneration process. Each laser pulse removes a narrow column of tissue while simultaneously treating the surrounding skin. This deep heating causes immediate collagen contraction and long term collagen remodeling. The result is softening and smoothing of wrinkles and scars, and improved skin texture. Recovery times are shorter and there are fewer long-term complications when compared to traditional CO2 resurfacing technology.

Who Will Perform the Procedure?
Our dermatologic surgeon, Dr. Weimin Katherine Hu, will perform your procedure. What is Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing Treatment Like and Is the Procedure Painful?
Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing is typically performed in a physician’s office and lasts for about 20 minutes. Your comfort is our top priority. Oral pain medications, as well as topical anesthesia, may be used during the treatment. As the microbeams are applied, you will feel a warm sensation at the treatment area. Immediately following the treatment, your skin will feel warm and will be similar in appearance to a deep sunburn. Over the next several days you will follow a gentle washing and moisturizing regimen, and avoid direct exposure to sunlight.
The post-procedure discomfort is minor; our patients have been able to tolerate the procedure very well. As your skin heals, it will begin to flake, and you will notice improvement in your wrinkles, fine lines, pigment and scars. Redness can last a few months depending upon your individual skin type.
You will be able to go back to work in 5-10 days depending on the depth of the treatment.
How Soon Will I See Results and How Long Will They Last?
You will notice improvement with skin texture and color in about two weeks. Wrinkle improvement will take about 2-6 months since it depends on collagen regeneration. UltraPulse ablative resurfacing can typically provide long lasting benefit for decades.
