Chemical Peels

How Do Chemical Peels Work?
Chemical peels enhance the skin’s texture and appearance by chemically removing the damaged outer layers of the skin and can promote collagen production which will increase your skin’s elasticity. Chemical peels are a liquid mixture of varying acids that are applied to the skin and agitate the skin to promote sloughing of older damaged layers of the skin. After two to three days your skin will begin “peeling” as though you received a mild sunburn, thus the term “chemical peel.” The peeling will last anywhere from a couple of days to a week, depending upon the intensity of the solution. There are a variety of chemical peels to choose from. Each peel targets specific “trouble areas” and has varying levels of “peeling.”

What Peels Should I Get?
Here at Specialists in Dermatology we offer numerous peels that address various skin conditions. They are broken down into three separate categories:

  • Superficial Chemical Peels: Light peels with very little peeling. (Glycolic Peel, Salicylic Peel)
  • Specialty Chemical Peels: Medium depth peels with three to five days of mild peeling. (Pigment Balancing Peel, Vitalize Peel, VI Peel)
  • Deep Chemical Peels: Deep resurfacing peel with 10 to 14 days of moderate peeling. (Blue Peel)

Chemical peels are fast and easy to do. Come in for a peel on your lunch break!

What is Microdermabrasion – Diamond Peel?

Painless, noninvasive, and effective, microdermabrasion can revitalize dull skin, generating a younger, healthier look. Among its many benefits are a reduction of large pores, erasing of fine lines and wrinkles, reduction of acne scars, mild pigment irregularities, stretch marks and age spots. What makes microdermabrasion one of the most popular facial cosmetic treatments in America is its short duration and lack of downtime. Often described as a “lunchtime facial,” microdermabrasion can be done during your lunch break in 30 to 60 minutes and doesn’t require rest. Patients can go back to their daily routine immediately after the procedure.

How Does the Procedure Work?
Over time, skin becomes dull and can accumulate blemishes, scars, and signs of aging. It is inevitable to run into these undesirable effects, but microdermabrasion provides a simple solution to restoring a healthy appearance. During the treatment, our estheticians will use a hand held wand to gently resurface the skin. This gentle abrasion uses a fine diamond tip wand that breaks up dead skin and other imperfections to create a glowing look. Microdermabrasion works much like a vacuum exfoliator that buffs the skin to enhance skin texture and improve circulation and lymph flow.

What Can I Expect?
The treatment serves to partially or completely remove the top layer of the skin. It improves the appearance of scars and dark spots while working to remove dull, damaged skin. While microdermabrasion is most effective for patients in the early stages of aging, teens have also benefited from this technique as it can reduce mild acne. The procedure is considered effective for most skin types and can be performed on the face, neck, chest, back, feet and hands.

What Are the Side Effects?
Microdermabrasion is not known to be associated with any adverse side effects. However, the skin may appear slightly red for up to 24 hours after the treatment.

How Does it Work?
Micro-Needling involves the use of a dermaroller – a handheld roller with multiple, fine-pointed needles. This device is rolled onto the skin’s surface, triggering the skin’s natural wound healing process, resulting in collagen and elastin simulation. Puncturing the skin with the roller also allows for maximum absorption of varying skincare products.

What Conditions Does it Treat?
Micro-Needling treats acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, superficial laxity, pigmentation, and large pores.

What Can I Expect?
Prior to the micro-needling procedure, a topical anesthetic is used over the treatment area to ensure optimum comfort. The dermaroller is then used to roll across the skin’s surface. Improvement can be seen with just one treatment, however 5 treatments spaced every two to four weeks apart is recommended. The skin will remain very red for one to two hours after the procedure, and the skin will peel for two to three days. This is a great treatment option if patients do now have the downtime for CO2.

How Does it Work?
Dermaplaning is a light resurfacing procedure that gently exfoliates the skin, removing impurities and fine facial hair. The result is an overall smoothing of the skin tone and texture. This procedure can be performed on its own or prior to any of our other skin care treatments to increase absorption and effectiveness. This safe, noninvasive treatment is performed with the use of a surgical blade to manually scrape off layers of skin, not only improving uneven skin but improving product absorption, and removing unwanted facial hair as well.
