What To Expect
Mohs micrographic surgery is a specialized surgical technique used to treat certain types of skin cancer, including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and select early-stage melanomas. The procedure focuses on removing cancerous tissue while preserving as much healthy skin as possible.
During Mohs surgery, the visible cancer is removed first. A thin layer of surrounding tissue is then carefully examined for remaining cancer cells. If cancer is detected, additional layers are removed and evaluated until the area is confirmed to be cancer-free. This step-by-step approach allows for precise treatment and tissue conservation.
Mohs surgery is often recommended for skin cancers that are larger, aggressive, recurrent, or located in areas where preserving healthy tissue is especially important, such as the face, nose, eyelids, ears, hands, or extremities.
At Specialists in Dermatology PLLC, Mohs surgery is performed by Weimin K. Hu, MD, PhD, a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon with extensive experience in skin cancer treatment and surgical reconstruction.Mohs Surgery Process
